Spanish Bank Streamkeepers
Ron Gruber

Born and raised in Point Grey, Ron grew into a talented carver, whose work reflected his keen eye and love of nature. He had a passion for British Columbia's great outdoors and was an expert on BC coastal birds, whose likeness he could represent with vivid accuracy in pieces of wood he collected only a stones throw from his home. His work is now in private collections all over the world. Ron was also one of the stream keepers of Spanish Banks Creek, a rehabilitated stream most Vancouverites regularly cross over on their beloved Spanish Banks walks. In recent years, his concern for a declining salmon population and stewardship of this salmon spawning stream led it to be nicknamed "Ron's Stream." His concern for nature and the next generation led Ron to donate countless hours teaching thousands of school children from all over Vancouver about the salmon spawning process. But most of all, Ron was a loving father, a gardener, coach, fisherman and steadfast husband whose love and care for his family and the natural world around him will be sadly missed by all.
