Fisheries Project Registry
Introducing the Fisheries Project Registry
About the FPR:The FPR is a joint Federal (Fisheries and Oceans Canada) and Provincial (BC Ministry of Fisheries) project, designed to track specific categories of fish and fish habitat related projects – including inventory, assessment, enhancement, restoration, research and economic development; to coordinate funding across funding agencies and to promote partnerships on related projects. The FPR runs on the Internet and has a spatial (GIS map-based) component which geo-references project activity locations using the B.C. Digital 1:50,000 Watershed Atlas.
The objectives of the FPR are to:
- Identify who is doing what to improve fish and fish habitat, the project's activity locations, what methods are being followed, and if support is needed.
- See if there are efficiencies to be gained by coordinating projects and activities.
- Provide the ability to perform a gap analysis to determine where projects are needed, thereby reducing the duplication of funding for projects.
The FPR application is housed in a virtual data warehouse at Pacific Region Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) in Vancouver. The location of the FPR web-site is http://www.canbcfpr.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/FPR
