CKNW(AM980) - The outdoor recreation council's 14th annual list of B.C.'s most endangered rivers has been released and leading the list are the Cheakamus River near Squamish and the Steelhead Streams of the Georgia Basin.

Mark Angelo, the council's rivers chairman says if river habitat is destroyed or significantly damaged, you lose any chance you may have to protect or rebuild fish stocks.

The stream has lost over 500 thousand salmon, steelhead, trout, lamprey and other species after a caustic soda spill from a CN Rail car derailment last August.

Angelo notes there is no easy fix to such catastrophes and much more must be done.
