CHILLIWACK/CKNW(AM980) - Provincial Environment Minister Barry Penner says some young salmon in the Chilliwack River will be transported to the Cheakamus River to replace those killed after a train derailment led to a chemical spill.

At least 330 thousand young 'pinks' will be transported.

Bob Stanton, project manager of the local hatchery, confirmed the Cheakamus is actually the site from which the Chilliwack hatchery's pink salmon eggs came, making Chilliwack a logical choice to help restock the river.

Penner says other species may be coming from other hatcheries but that has yet to be confirmed.
