Canadian Columbia Basin/The Kootenays:

Gerry Nellestijn

Gerry Nellestijn is the Coordinator of the Salmo Watershed Streamkeepers Society and is working with a number of groups to establish a Columbia Basin Streamkeepers initiative. Trained in cultural anthropology and environmental management he has been working in fisheries research, habitat restoration and watershed-based planning for 9 years.

He has long been interested in community-based stewardship and conservation economics. “Getting out in nature and realizing that the health of every living thing is what keeps us healthy is fun and important. We need to keep our planet and its water life giving and sustaining. Learning Modules 1-4 will put you in touch with ‘the place where you live’ in a way that will let you know that place and give you the base to record any changes to it.” Join Gerry for 2 days to learn modules 1-4, it’s hands on, it’s informative, it’s fun and it will leave you with usable data. Includes post course guidance.

Successful completion will earn you a Streamkeepers Certificate. I’ll bring the streamkeepers cookies, you bring your enthusiasm, weather appropriate gear, waders and lunch.

Gerry teaches modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 11.

Preferred class size 8. Cost, $50.00/person + out of town expenses.

Streamkeeper Handbook $20.00 (optional)
