Cut Bank
Information on this
page has been adapted from the Streamkeepers Handbook and Modules
A cut bank occurs when moving water digs out, and washes away the stream bank, below water level. They are difficult to see from the bank, and offer fish excellent hiding places from predators, and high water flows. Rooted cut banks are held in place by the roots of plants growing on the surface of them. Un-rooted banks have no roots to hold them in place, and often collapse into the creek.
